Census survey of small cottage industry 2011 13 launched

The Annual Development Programme Project "Census & Survey of Small and Cottage Industry 2011-13" was launched at a seminar organized by Punjab Small Industries Corporation here on Tuesday to identify the industrial clusters, availability of raw material, production, manpower, technical & financial status and skills.

This is the fourth such a census and survey being carried out by PSIC for the years 2011-13. Provincial Minister for Industries Chaudhry Muhammad Shafique and Minister for Population Welfare Zakiya Shahnawaz attended the launching ceremony.

Managing Director Punjab Small Industries Bilal Ahmed Butt briefly explained that census of small and cottage industry is one of the major objectives of PSIC in order to update the data of cottage and small industries in the province. He further explained that census & survey would be conducted in collaboration with Bureau of Statistics Punjab (BOS) all over Punjab excluding military areas in all the nine divisions, 36 districts, 137 tehsils and 3464 union councils by covering urban and rural areas. Census comprises a provincial report, 36 district books, a handbook on its salient features and development of software/application of census data.

Managing Director Indus Venture Board Member LUMS Lahore Dr Abid Malik, Director General Bureau of Statistics Punjab Shamim Rafique, Convenor Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Nasira Taskeen, Deputy Managing Director PSIC Tariq Mehmood Javid, Director Planning PSIC Sabih Zakam and Senior Statistical Officer PSIC Muhammad Tahir also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the need of documenting small and cottage industry in Punjab.
